Chelsea attempted defence of their Champions League crown continues on Tuesday night as they begin the knockout rounds by hosting French champions Lille at Stamford Bridge.
The Blues progressed in second place in Group H behind Juventus, while Lille came through Group G as winners.
The Blues’ domestic campaign hasn’t quite gone as they’d have hoped this season. Although they showed some early promise, they’re now 13 points off Premier League leaders Manchester City. Despite impressing in Europe, though, the French side have struggled domestically too and stand no chance of retaining their Ligue 1 title.
Thomas Tuchel is likely to leave Mason Mount out as he is still struggling with an ankle problem, and Chelsea have a Carabao Cup final against Liverpool on February 27. Cesar Azpilicueta and Callum Hudson-Odoi are also doubts, while Ben Chilwell remains out long term. Reece James is unlikely to feature due to the flu.
Lille are thought to be without Angel Gomes, meaning Hatem Ben Arfa or Timothy Weah could start at Stamford Bridge.
